Third Coast 2005
It has taken me a week to write this, because it took a week to recover! Its like coming to a gathering of the justice league - all my favorite radio people in one room.. or bar... This year I had an official duty to perform: a presentation with Tod Maffin on Podcasting and public radio - it went pretty well, the second day was better - but of course the first day had the full house and the cute girls in the front row..
I think I totally failed to convince the folks that there is something to this podcasting thing - many radio producers see this as a sign that they will get even less money from the stations and networks for their content - and while i totally disagree I do see where the cynicism is coming from. But I was especially confused that no-one wanted to talk about the new aesthetic possibilities podcasting opens up - everyone only wanted to know about where the money is... sigh
This year - the third coast-transom blog was done right (heh - last year yours truly did it wrong) and my new favorite Dane Pejk Malinovski covered my session - and he asked the same question (the one about the money) - and I realized that I really can't be the spokesperson for this anymore - because even though I appreciate the listener supported business model - its not for me! I am much happier with the day job business model - but of course a trust fund would be better.
I was inspired by many things I heard this year- thanks to Julie Shapiro, Roman Mars, and Johanna Zorn for bringing me out - always a fun time.
