BROADCAST 16 'Head Full Of Ideas'
This week on the radio program, I profile the Iranian Blogger Hossein Derakhshan or 'Hoder,' (picture courtesy of Sam Javanrouh). Officially I made this profile for the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, but when Hoder confided to me how he would rather think about things like creativity and art, I knew I wanted to include this piece in the program. The genesis of this broadcast is a letter by the cartoonist and illustrator Bernie Krigstein to his wife Natalie, when he was stationed in Europe in May 1944. I found this letter in an excellent book on Krigstein by Greg Sadowski, that I recently picked up and couldn't put down. Also in the program is a meditation on the new Henry Darger movie, In The Realms of the Unreal. I have been obsessed with Henry Darger ever since I first learned about him in the pages of Art Spiegelman's RAW magazine in the early 1990s - the movie is great - a bold successful analysis of how creativity and art function in our lives.
